Son Llàtzer University Hospital Highlights Research at the First Event of Its 25th Anniversary

Son Llàtzer University Hospital has held the first event marking its 25th anniversary, with a clear commitment to innovation and, in particular, to research as a transformative pillar of the healthcare system. Under the motto “Ideas that beat, science that moves forward,” the event brought together healthcare professionals, researchers, and experts to reflect on the future of health.

Research Takes Center Stage

One of the main focuses of the event was the role of biomedical research integrated into clinical practice. In this context, the contribution of the Health Research Institute of the Balearic Islands (IdISBa) was highlighted as a key structure for promoting competitive projects, innovation, and knowledge transfer.

In this regard, the Managing Director of IdISBa, Carlos Enrique Herrero, and its Scientific Director, Tomás Ripoll, delivered a presentation focused on how research and the public healthcare system mutually nourish one another to improve health outcomes.

In addition, Son Llàtzer professionals affiliated with the institute actively participated in various parts of the program, ranging from dialogues between senior and emerging profiles to interdisciplinary roundtables on the challenges of conducting research within the hospital setting.

The participation of IdISBa underscored the strong link between the hospital and research activity, demonstrating that a significant proportion of Son Llàtzer’s staff are active members of accredited research groups within the institute.

Involvement of Son Llàtzer Staff in IdISBa

During the event, it was emphasized that professionals from different areas—clinical services, nursing, and support services—have taken part in research projects linked to IdISBa, contributing to the generation of knowledge directly applicable to improving patient care.

This cross-cutting participation reflects a hospital model in which research is not viewed as a separate activity, but rather as an integrated part of daily clinical practice. In this sense, the presence of Son Llàtzer professionals in consolidated and emerging IdISBa research groups was highlighted, along with their role in securing funding and contributing to scientific output.

Connecting Research and Clinical Practice

The various sessions and discussion spaces made it possible to demonstrate how research developed within the hospital environment has contributed to improvements in diagnosis, treatment, and the organization of healthcare delivery.

Furthermore, the importance of encouraging research vocations among younger professionals was emphasized, as well as strengthening support structures that facilitate participation in competitive and collaborative research projects.

A Strategic Commitment for the Future

This first event was part of the commemorative program for the hospital’s 25th anniversary and served to reaffirm Son Llàtzer’s commitment to a healthcare model based on clinical excellence, innovation, and research.

The event concluded with the shared understanding that staff involvement in research initiatives—particularly through IdISBa—has been and will continue to be a key element in addressing the future challenges of the healthcare system.
