IdISBa and UIB host the TERMIS EU Congress in Palma, one of Europe’s leading events in tissue engineering.

The TERMIS‑EU 2026 Congress is one of the leading scientific meetings in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. This edition was inaugurated on Tuesday, April 21 and will run until Friday, April 24 at the Palma Congress Palace, with the participation of more than 1,600 professionals from around the world.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Regional Minister of Health, Manuela García; the President of TERMIS‑EU and IdISBa researcher, Manuel Gómez Florit; and the Managing Director of IdISBa, Carlos Enrique Herrero.
The congress, organized by the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS), addresses the latest advances in biomaterials, cell and gene therapies, biofabrication, and clinical translation, under the motto “Accelerating multidisciplinary innovation to close the gap in clinical translation.” The TERMIS‑EU 2026 program combines basic, translational, and clinical research through scientific sessions focused on biomaterials, advanced therapies, and knowledge transfer. The 2026 edition features Scandinavia as the guest region, under the theme “From Nature to Health: Biopolymers in Tissue Engineering.”
The Health Research Institute of the Balearic Islands (IdISBa) and the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) play a prominent role in the organization and promotion of TERMIS‑EU 2026 through institutional support and the active involvement of research groups closely linked to cell therapy, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine. This commitment highlights the dedication of both institutions to excellence in biomedical research, health innovation, and the international projection of the Balearic Islands’ scientific ecosystem.
In particular, the Cell Therapy and Tissue Engineering group (TERCIT), whose researchers are affiliated with IdISBa, Son Espases University Hospital, UIB, and the Balearic Islands Blood and Tissue Bank, plays a central role in the organization of the congress. Its leadership reflects the strong research capacity present in the archipelago in a strategic field for the medicine of the future. The hosting of TERMIS‑EU 2026 places the Balearic Islands at the center of the European scientific debate and contributes to fostering scientific cooperation, attracting talent, and promoting the development of scientific tourism.
