The Balearic Islands Health Research Institute (IdISBa) held the first edition of Eureka!Day this Thursday, April 16. This event was designed to identify, analyze, and prioritize innovative opportunities in health research projects, with the aim of promoting their transfer to the healthcare system and the productive sector.
The event took place at the Auditorium of Son Espases University Hospital and brought together experts in innovation and valorization, as well as biomedical professionals with experience in generating real impact through research.
The conference began with an institutional welcome by Carlos Enrique. The manager of IdISBa explained that the institution’s goal is to work with the company GÉNESIS Biomed on a biennial basis and with 28 research groups each year, holding individual meetings with each group to analyze projects with transfer potential.
This was followed by a presentation of the GÉNESIS Biomed initiative by its CEO, Josep Lluís Falcó, who described the company’s role in evaluating and valorizing projects with potential for transfer, as well as the scouting methodology. Falcó also presented success stories and best practices that provided key insights applicable to the context of the Balearic Islands.
In the case of IdISBa, the success stories presented included Lida Ainara Vargas Herguezabal for the Pipicount project; Roberto de la Rica Quesada for the spin-off Nanodecal Dx; and Leandro Augusto Brogi Fortti and Francesc Xavier Molina for the Smart Aid project.
The day continued with a discussion and Q&A session, during which researchers were able to resolve questions and share concerns about the transfer process. Finally, a roundtable discussion featuring the success cases highlighted real-life experiences of transforming ideas into solutions that generate social and economic value.
