Description | Health Information Research Platform (PRISIB)
Description
PRISIB is the Health Information Research Platform of IdISBa.
This platform was created as a collaboration between the Balearic Islands Health Service (IBSalut) and the Research Institute to provide a single access point for obtaining valid and reliable data from electronic health records and other complementary sources to generate knowledge, support research, and facilitate innovation and evaluation in the healthcare field.
In general terms, any data source collected during the health service activity may be used by PRISIB for research projects, provided that such use has been approved by the relevant Research and Ethics Committees.
The following are the data sources most used by the platform:
- SIAP: Primary Care Information System. Records all activity from health centers and complementary units.
- Electronic Prescription: Records all prescriptions made using the health card and the dispensing of medications by pharmacies.
- Laboratory: All health system laboratories are computerized, and data can be jointly exploited.
- CMBD: Minimum Basic Data Set. Repository with coding of all hospital discharge reports.
In the past, other sources of information have been accessed occasionally for use in research:
- Corporate PACS: IBSalut's image archiving and communication system where radiological examinations performed in hospitals are stored and consulted for clinical practice.
- RADELEC: System for collecting and analyzing electrocardiograms performed in both primary care and hospitals.
- IdISBa Biobank: This Biobank has several collections of samples collected for research purposes that PRISIB can complement with donors' clinical information.
Given the growing interest in using health data within the scientific community, the platform participates in the following projects aimed at exploring data for research, improving platform functionality by aligning with equivalent institutions, and participating in multicenter research projects initiated by other institutions or driven by the Balearic research community:
- IMPaCT-Data: Data Science Program of the Precision Medicine Infrastructure promoted by the Carlos III Institute, aiming to support the development of a common, interoperable, and integrated system for collecting and analyzing clinical data.
- EHDEN: European Health Data & Evidence Network, promoted by Horizon 2020 and EFPIA to create a federated network of research centers using the same data models and coding (OMOP CDM) to generate robust and reliable scientific evidence quickly and efficiently.
- OHDSI: Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics program, an international collaboration for developing large-scale health data analysis tools using open-source code and a federated data model.
- EOSC-A: European Open Science Cloud Association, the legal entity created by the European Commission to govern the European data and services portal for scientific research.
- Darwin-EU: Network of research centers conducting studies on the use, safety, and effectiveness of medicines to inform decisions by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
- OHSIRIS: A pioneering project establishing a federated network of research centers at the national level under the new regulations for European Health Data Spaces.
