David Triay "El Cromas" Donates €32,000 to IdISBa to Support Colorectal Cancer Research

The Menorcan content creator raised the funds through a charitable campaign inspired by his personal experience with a disease that affects thousands of people every year.

The Health Research Institute of the Balearic Islands (IdISBa) has received a €32,000 donation from Menorcan content creator David Triay, known on social media as El Cromas. The funds will support colorectal cancer research carried out by the Colorectal Surgery Unit at Son Espases University Hospital.

The cheque was received by the Regional Minister of Health, Manuela García, at an event attended by the Director General of the Balearic Health Service, Javier Ureña; the Manager of Son Espases University Hospital, Cristina Granados; the Manager of IdISBa, Carlos Enrique Herrero; the Scientific Director of IdISBa, Tomàs Ripoll; and the Head of the Digestive Surgery Department at Son Espases, Xavier González.

At just 17 years old, Triay has chosen to use the reach and influence of his social media platforms, where he has a community of more than 11 million followers, to raise awareness of this disease and generate funding for biomedical research. The initiative stems from a personal experience closely linked to colorectal cancer. The young creator has witnessed the impact of the disease on family members and people close to him, and he himself underwent surgery for a colon condition.

"This campaign is a way of turning a difficult experience into hope for others," said Triay. "Colorectal cancer is becoming increasingly common and worrying. We cannot think that it only affects other people. Any of us could face this diagnosis one day."

During his medical journey, David Triay met Dr Álvaro García-Granero, a colorectal surgery specialist at Son Espases University Hospital. This experience helped him gain a deeper understanding of the importance of research in advancing prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

The fundraising campaign received an overwhelmingly positive response from the public and successfully raised €32,000, which will be allocated entirely to colorectal cancer research projects in the Balearic Islands. This contribution will help generate new scientific knowledge and advance the fight against one of the most common cancers affecting the population.

IdISBa expressed its gratitude to the young content creator and to everyone who contributed to the initiative. "Actions like this demonstrate the transformative power of society when it becomes involved in research. Public solidarity is essential to continue advancing towards new diagnostic tools, more effective treatments and a better quality of life for patients," said the institution's Managing Director, Carlos Enrique Herrero.

The campaign remains open to anyone who would like to support the initiative and contribute to colorectal cancer research through IdISBa's fundraising platform: David Triay "El Cromas" Charity Campaign.

About Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal cancer is one of the most common types of cancer and represents a major public health challenge. Research is essential to improve early detection, better understand the mechanisms of the disease and develop increasingly personalised and effective treatments.

Thanks to charitable initiatives such as the one led by David Triay, IdISBa can continue promoting research projects aimed at improving people's health and well-being.
