Two students who completed internships at IdISBa receive awards in the 2026 Científic@s en Prácticas programme

Kaoutar Rabhi, from IES Josep Sureda i Blanes, and Eva Tortajada, from IES Son Rullan, have been recognised for the work they carried out during their training placements in IdISBa research groups

The Health Research Institute of the Balearic Islands (IdISBa) celebrates the recognition received by two of the students who took part this year in the Científic@s en Prácticas programme, an initiative promoted by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Spanish Association for the Advancement of Science (AEAC), in collaboration with the Healthcare Social Responsibility Network. The programme aims to bring scientific research closer to young people and encourage scientific and research careers.

The students Kaoutar Rabhi, from IES Josep Sureda i Blanes, and Eva Tortajada, from IES Son Rullan, are among the award recipients in the Balearic Islands for the projects they developed during their placements at research centres. Both completed their internships in June in IdISBa laboratories, temporarily joining research teams and participating in real scientific activities alongside researchers.

Kaoutar Rabhi carried out her placement in the Innovation in Infection Immunopathogenesis Group (GTERi), where she gained first-hand experience of the methodologies and research lines related to infectious diseases and immune responses.

Eva Tortajada, meanwhile, completed her internship in the Inflammation, Repair and Cancer in Respiratory Diseases Group (iRespire). She was awarded a scholarship ex aequo with Manuel Palomares, from the Complex Systems Group, with both recipients sharing the financial award.

In the 2026 edition, IdISBa hosted students from IES Son Rullan and IES Josep Sureda i Blanes, who joined different research groups within the institute for one week to gain insight into how biomedical research is conducted. The programme included basic training in laboratory techniques, visits to scientific facilities and direct participation in ongoing projects under the supervision of research staff.

The initiative concluded with the preparation and presentation of the work carried out during the placements, allowing participants to share their results and reflect on their experience in a scientific research environment.

For IdISBa, these awards demonstrate the positive impact of programmes such as Científic@s en Prácticas, which not only bring science closer to younger generations but also help inspire research careers and promote young talent. Through its participation in this initiative, the institute reaffirms its commitment to science communication, the training of future researchers and bringing biomedical research closer to society.
