IdISBa takes part in the 3rd International SEDAN Conference on Neurodevelopment, Sensations, Emotions and Pain
The Health Research Institute of the Balearic Islands (IdISBa) is collaborating in the 3rd International SEDAN Conference: Sensations, Emotions and Pain in Neurodevelopmental Disorders, organised by Fundació Aspace Balears and to be held on 26 September at CaixaForum Palma under the theme "From Research to Clinical Practice."
The conference will bring together national and international experts in genetics, neuroscience, healthcare, psychology, education and disability, with the aim of translating scientific advances into clinical and educational practice and contributing to a better understanding and care of people with neurodevelopmental disorders.
The programme is structured into three thematic blocks. The first will focus on genetics, epigenetics and the human experience of neurodevelopmental syndromes, featuring Dr Francesc Palau Martínez, Head of the Department of Genetic and Molecular Medicine at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona, and Astrid Diederichs, representative of Smith-Magenis Advocacy Group Germany.
The second block will address sensations, emotions and pain. Speakers will include Dr Anna María Zamorano, researcher at Aarhus University (Denmark), Dr Yukari Takahashi from Jikei Medical School in Tokyo, and Laura Arriero, physiotherapist at Fundació Aspace Balears. Their presentations will focus on the application of music, animal studies and the usefulness of electrocardiography in pain assessment, respectively.
The practical application of this knowledge in educational and healthcare settings will be the focus of the third block, with contributions from professionals in education, psychology, neuropsychology, and child and adolescent care.
One of the highlights of the event will be the presentation of the beta version of PainScan CP, the first artificial intelligence-based application designed to detect pain in people with cerebral palsy. The tool is part of the ParticiPC: Citizen Science for the Ethical and Collaborative Expansion of the CP PAIN Database in Healthcare and Family Contexts project, developed in collaboration with the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT).
The conference will also include a scientific poster competition, offering a €200 award for the best submission, with the aim of promoting research dissemination and knowledge exchange among professionals and students.
The 3rd International SEDAN Conference is part of the dissemination activities of the ParticiPC project and is supported by Fundación "la Caixa", as well as leading organisations from the healthcare, scientific and professional sectors, including IdISBa, the Biotechnology and Biomedicine Cluster of the Balearic Islands (BIOIB), the Official College of Psychologists of the Balearic Islands (COPIB), the Official College of Pharmacists of the Balearic Islands (COFIB), and the Official College of Physicians of the Balearic Islands (COMIB).
Participation is free of charge and open to healthcare professionals, researchers, students, families and the general public. The conference can be attended in person or online, and registration will remain open until 18 September.
