The agreement was signed by the managing director of Son Espases University Hospital, Cristina Granados; the scientific director of IdISBa, Tomàs Ripoll; and the president of the Marco Asensio Foundation, footballer Marco Asensio, in the presence of the Director General of the Health Service, Javier Ureña.

The aim of this agreement is to promote innovative strategies that help improve the quality of life and clinical outcomes of pediatric cancer patients by integrating healthy habits into the therapeutic process and fostering research in the field of pediatric oncology. This reinforces the shared commitment to research, the humanization of care, and the development of programs that place patients at the center of healthcare.

As part of the agreement signing, Marco Asensio visited the Pediatric Oncology area at Son Espases and the Oncology Fit program (OncoFit). During the visit, the footballer-accompanied by his brother Igor and his father Gilberto-shared meaningful moments with hospitalized children and their families, and presented signed footballs to both patients and their siblings.

The OncoFit program is a pioneering service aimed at integrating physical exercise and healthy habits as part of cancer treatment in childhood and adolescence. Through activities tailored to each patient, a multidisciplinary team works to maintain muscle mass, improve mood, and reduce treatment side effects, thereby contributing to faster recovery and overall patient well-being.

The Marco Asensio Foundation, committed to improving the quality of life of children and adolescents with cancer, promotes initiatives that combine sport, healthy nutrition, and emotional support as key tools during the disease process.

The visit was also attended by Teresa Ferrer, psycho-oncologist at ASPANOB; José Antonio Salinas, head of the Pediatric Oncology Service at Son Espases; Joan Figuerola, head of the Pediatrics Service; and Miriam Sans, scientific coordinator of the Oncology Area at IdISBa.

This agreement consolidates the collaboration between the signing institutions to advance more comprehensive, innovative, and patient-centered care for pediatric oncology patients.
