IdISBa launches a new edition of the Científic@s en prácticas 2026 programme

The Health Research Institute of the Balearic Islands (IdISBa) has launched a new edition of the Científic@s en prácticas programme, an initiative aimed at bringing biomedical research closer to young students, fostering scientific vocations and promoting talent, especially in disadvantaged areas. a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; } This is an educational project of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Spanish Association for the Advancement of Science (AEAC), with the collaboration of the Health Network for Social Responsibility.

In this 2026 edition, students from IES Són Rullan and IES Josep Sureda i Blanes will carry out a one-week stay at IdISBa, where they will join three research groups: the Cancer Cell Biology group (BIOCANCER), the Cellular Therapy and Tissue Engineering group (TERCIT), and the Advanced Therapies and Biomarkers in Clinical Oncology group. They will also take part in activities promoted by the research support platforms.

The main objective of the programme is to offer students the opportunity to undertake placements in research laboratories and groups, participate in their work and interact with research staff. In this way, the initiative seeks to bring them closer to a scientific environment that they would otherwise have limited access to, while also awakening or strengthening their interest in science.

The programme begins with a welcome session at the building S of Son Espases University Hospital, which includes an introduction to IdISBa and a round of presentations. During this first day, participants acquire basic laboratory knowledge and become familiar with the laboratory notebook, an essential tool in scientific work. They also visit the institute's research facilities and the Simulation and 3D Unit.

During the following days, students are integrated into the laboratories of the different research groups, where they carry out practical activities related to ongoing projects under the supervision of research staff, allowing them to gain first-hand experience of how biomedical research works.

The programme concludes with a session dedicated to data processing and the preparation of presentations, where participants work on the results obtained and prepare a final presentation. This is shared in a closing session, where experiences from the stay are presented.

In the longer term, the initiative aims to ensure continuity so that potential scientific vocations can be developed, providing young people with opportunities to continue their education in the scientific field.

Through this programme, IdISBa reinforces its commitment to scientific outreach, the training of future researchers and bringing research closer to society.
