Nit de la Recerca 2026
The Health Research Institute of the Balearic Islands (IdISBa) will once again take part in the European Researchers' Night 2026, a science outreach initiative held simultaneously in numerous European cities with the aim of bringing research closer to society and showcasing the work of researchers.
Throughout the event, IdISBa will offer various activities for all ages, including interactive stands, scientific storytelling sessions and short outreach talks focused on health and biomedical research.
Interactive stands (6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.)
-
Biosensor Performance: The Innovation in Infection Immunopathogenesis research group will present a hands-on activity allowing participants to discover how biosensors work. Through an interactive demonstration, visitors will learn how this technology can be used to count specific immune system cells and understand its potential applications in the diagnosis and monitoring of different diseases.
-
Endocrine Disruptors: The Energy Metabolism and Nutrition research group will offer a family-friendly activity explaining what endocrine disruptors are, how they work and where we may encounter them in everyday life. Through age-adapted games, participants will discover how common products can interact with the hormonal system and learn practical strategies to reduce exposure.
-
Micro-World Detective: Zoom, Microscope Hunt: The Genetic Cardiomyopathies, Sudden Death and TTR Amyloidosis group and the Health Genomics group will invite participants to become true detectives of the microscopic world. Using microscopes connected to display screens, families will be able to explore the structure of screen pixels, observe biological phenomena such as osmosis in plant cells and discover different tissues and microorganisms.
Scientific storytelling sessions
The programme will include several activities designed to bring science closer to children through storytelling:
- 6:15 p.m. — The Three Viruses Argue, by Sion Riera. An original puppet story about infectious diseases. Three viruses, HIV, SARS-CoV-2 and Ebola, argue about their virulence and explain the strategies they use to spread, reproduce and evade treatments.
- 6:30 p.m. — Let's Save Antibiotics for Those Who Need Them”, by Elena Jordana. A story aimed at promoting the responsible use of medicines and antibiotics, explaining in a simple way the risks of self-medication, the importance of following medical advice and the need to prevent antibiotic resistance.
- 6:45 p.m. — Toxic Friendships, by Paula Moscoso. An activity focused on kidney health promotion and the prevention of chronic kidney disease through characters and puppets that help explain the importance of the kidneys and healthy habits.
Science micro-talks
The event will also feature several short outreach talks on topics of great relevance to public health:
-
7:00 p.m. — Technology at the Service of Your Health—Presented by Cristina Torres and Lucía López Navarro from the Community Nutrition and Oxidative Stress (NUCOX) group. Discover how you can contribute to scientific progress, actively participate in our clinical studies and improve your health with the support of a team of healthcare professionals.
-
7:50 p.m. — Want to Improve Your Liver Health? Start with Your Lifestyle Presented by Maria Magdalena Quetglas from the Community Nutrition and Oxidative Stress (NUCOX) group. This talk will explore the relationship between nutrition, physical activity and liver health, with a particular focus on preventing and reversing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
-
8:00 p.m. — Prediabetes and Brain Health: A Window of Opportunity for Prevention. Presented by Laura N. Roza Amengual from the Nursing, Community and Global Health group.
